Camp Activities and Schedule

 

The General William B. Bate Camp 34 has a committment to the Confederate veterans buried in the Gallatin City Cemetery. There are 207 Confederate veterans buried there and we are committedcaring for there graves and in improving the appearance of their graves and for Confederate Circle, dedicated to the Confederate veterans buried there.

Placing Headstones

We have placed numerous headstones for the Confederate veterans buried the Gallatin City Cemetery.

Putting up the flag at Confederate Circle

​

In Confederate Circle we have installed two flag poles and fly one of the Confederate national flags on one and one of the battle flags on the other.

Confederate Circle

​

Confederate Circle was owned and maintained by Donnelson Bivouac of the United Confederate Veterans and we, as their successor, have taken ownership of it so that we can maintain and improve it. We are committed to this hallowed location which includes the very first Confederate soldier buried in Gallatin.

Hunley Monument

​

Horace L. Hunley, the inventer of the CSS Hunley, the first submarine to sink another craft in battle was born in Sumner County, Tennessee not far from Bledsoe Lick County Park. The Camp raised the money and commissioned the creation of a monument to honor Horace Hunley.

Confederate Decoration Day 2015

 

On June 6, 2015, Bate Camp held its annual Confederate Decoration Day ceremony. Our guest speaker was Michael Landree, Executive Director of National Headquarters of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Also pictured is Commander Lucas who served as Master of Ceremonies.

H. L. Hunley JROTC Award

 

On April 22, 2016, Bate Camp Commander Lucas presented the H. L. Hunley JROTC Award to Cadet Ashton Fontana at Gallatin High School.The H. L. Hunley award is named after Horace Hunley, born in Sumner County, who created the first submersible to destroy an enemy warship in battle. Congratulations, Cadet Fontana.
